Firstly - hello, this is my first post on these forums, however, not my first post regarding this issue...!! Have posted this same issue on various other forums (DS forums, Vista forums) but have yet to see a resolution to this issue.....
My desktop PC ran Vista Home Premium and about over a year ago, suddenly developed the dreaded, 'Limited Availability' connection error when I tried to connect via ethernet cable to my D-Link dir 615 router.
I have tried all possibilities (detailed in the other forums I have posted this issue in), like all the ipconfig commands in the CMD prompt, rebooted modem and router and pc but still getting this issue.
Details of my setup are as follows:
Tech Support Guy System Info Utility version 1.0.0.2
OS Version: Microsoft Windows XP Professional, Service Pack 3, 32 bit
Processor: Intel Pentium II processor, x86 Family 6 Model 22 Stepping 1
Processor Count: 1
RAM: 2815 Mb
Graphics Card: SiS Mirage 3 Graphics, 256 Mb
Hard Drives: C: Total - 71447 MB, Free - 51308 MB; H: Total - 71183 MB, Free - 58231 MB;
Motherboard: Acer, F672CR
Antivirus: Microsoft Security Essentials, Updated: Yes, On-Demand Scanner: Enabled
The only way I am able to connect to the internet is via a Belkin wifi dongle (which is how I am able to connect and type this) - the ethernet cable just refuses to connect.
Things I have tried:
Replaced ethernet cable
rebooted modem and router (ISP is Virgin Media - Scientic Atlanta 2100 modem connected to D-Link 615 router)
all ipconfig commands through Command Prompt
Have even gone as far as resetting PC back to factory settings but this did not cure the problem - still getting 'Limited Connectivity' via ethernet. Also - the other day, I installed a genuine clean copy of Windows XP over Vista and believe it or not, XP is now giving, 'Limited Connectivity' via the ethernet cable....:confused::(
Further details of the ipconfig command are here:

As you can see - the Belkin wifi dongle connects fine, with an IP address of 192.168.0.101, however, the SiS191 ethernet controller (which has current and up to date drivers) refuses to connect and gives an IP of 169.254.241.0 :confused:
I have also tried copying the settings from the wifi dongle and manually entering them for the ethernet connection but this also does not work.....?!?!
I don't think its an issue with my router as I also have a laptop, connected via ethernet, which works fine. Also have 2 iPhones, 1 iPod, 1 iPad, Xbox and Wii which ALL connect to the same router (via wifi) without any issues.
Can anyone shed any light on this - I have had this issue for over a year now and have never been able to fix it...!
