can't print from laptop

I have a laptop and a desktop; both are running Win7-64. I also have two printers. I cannot print to either device from the laptop; this is a new problem. The error message on the laptop says the Server is Offline. I don't have a server. The printers are shared. How do I get the laptop to recognize the printers? Oh, yes, the desktop is running (not sleeping); I'm typing this from the desktop.
