I have a Toshiba netbook which my 14-year son last used, with a game disc in the attachable optical drive. He says he put it on hibernate. Now when turned on, screen is blank, unless I allow battery to expire completely. Then I plug in the power cord and push the power button. In that case the "Toshiba " screen comes on, then an explanation appears that something was saved to a disk because of imminent battery failure and says windows will resume in 10 seconds, the seconds run out or I select "resume windows," either way the screen goes blank but not black.
I read another thread (by tinman) about a similar problem which was fixed by removing the battery temporarily, but is this any different from letting the battery expire? (I'm not sure exactly where to find the battery to remove it.) Also read suggestion to hold function and press F4 which I haven't yet tried.
I did try starting the windows startup with the optical drive connected and my recovery disk in it, but that made no difference. What do I need to do to get windows to start up again? (I actually am not sure which windows version I have, but I think the netbook is a 2010 model, so whatever was put in it then.)
