Patch preventing Vista start-up

Any help for this problem? Have run start-up repair as recommended but Windows was unable to repair automatically. Error details state that a patch is preventing start-up. (I think this is following an automatic Windows update last night.)

I have seen a suggestion elsewhere that burning a Vista repair and recovery disk in ISO format can help but wonder if there are other solutions as I am completely un-techie!
