Windows won't boot up, battery died whilst booting up now won't boot up

I turned on a Philips 15nb57 series Model No EAA-89, but my battery died on start up and I didn't have time to put the power cable in.

I then switched on laptop again and the following error came up,‘Windows Error Recovery, windows fail to start , recent hardware or software installation may be problem'

then...

'Do you want to start windows normally or go to recovery?

Recovery mode
Start repair environment (doesn’t do much)
Reinstall windows
Adv options
Exit and restart'


Do you think I have corrupted the Bios and need to get a external floppy drive (or flash drive) to reinstall it?

This is a friends computer who had support from the 'tech support' recently,they took control of her 6 yr old laptop to install a small program to fix a wireless printing problem. hopefully not related.
