ftp danger?

I had an ftp open between my home computer and my server. I was at the same time browsing the internet for information about certain fonts. I clicked on a link what looked to be a normal web page but when I got there it seemed to be some sort of youtube clone with a nonsense web address and had some pornography on it. There was also a pop up in the window trying to force me to install something. I could not exit and was forced to control alt delete and logoff. My question is if this site contained some bad stuff(virus, malware), could it have gotten through the ftp and onto my server?
