Gateway 825GM Network Driver Problem

Reinstalled XP Media Center using non-Gateway CDs on this 825GM desktop. Naturally enough I have no ethernet drivers, so I used another PC and went to the Gateway site. They had 2 drivers listed under the LAN heading:
  • Marvell Yukon 88E8050 PCI-E ASF Gigabit Ethernet Controller Drive
and one just called
  • LAN Driver
The one called LAN driver extracts into a folder with several txt files, most of them specifying what type of motherboard I should have for this driver, but one, a yuknd.txt file has
1 Overview
The driver yuknd.dos is the NDIS2 driver for the Microsoft Network Client
for DOS for the Marvell Yukon Ethernet Controller.

2 Required Files
YUKND.DOS the driver
OEMSETUP.INF installation skript
PROTOCOL.INI SAMPLE configuration file

Microsoft Network Client 3.0 for MS-DOS

3 Installation
When installing the Microsoft Network Client for DOS follow these steps
to install yuknd.dos:

1. Start the installation of the Microsoft Network Client.
2. When you are prompted to select a network adapter, select
"Network adapter not shown on list below ...".
3. Enter the path where the files yuknd.dos and
oemsetup.inf are located.

I have no idea what they're talking about - I simply want to be able to have a wired internet connection.

The other zip file extract contains another text file that asks me to check my BIOS revision to be if this is applicable. It is. So I go to Device Manager, select Network adapters and install the driver. But I notice under 'Other Devices' is a yellow question mark to the left of Ethernet Controller. I don't know what the difference is between Network Adapter and Ethernet Controller - I always thought they were the same thing.

Anyway, the upshot is that when I attempt to open internet explorer I get a box saying 'This computer does not have an internet connection'. Since I've downloaded the only 2 LAN drivers listed, what do I do next?

Additional info ,,,, There is NO Wired AutoConfig listed in services.msc. Since this was a fresh install I don't know how that happended, but is it a situation where I need that service running first, or should installing the proper driver give me the service?
