I have a WD external drive that I cannot format. I can see the properties and it shows the 2.5 TB as totally filled!
It was NOT filled, only about 30% was used when problems began.
I don't know what occurred, but no backups were able to be run.
I tried using Western Digitals Format which appeared to be running but at the end it said that
the format failed. I can view the WD files that came with it, but can't see any of the backups that are on the drive.
ALSO, very odd...it shows the drive as e: but says its a DVD device?
I had problems with another WD 1.5 TB drive and had to replace it with a new 3 TB Seagate. That was a week ago, now
this drive (on my wife's laptop) has gone too.
I afraid I'll have to purchase another $160 drive. This is getting expensive.
I tried d/l SWISS KNIFE but couldn't get it to run.
My wife's Toshiba laptop is running Win/7 and I'm still on XP/Pro. on my Toshiba Laptop.
Is there a way to force a FAT32 format on that external drive?
