Computer freezes

Hi all,

I've got a Dell Inspiron desktop that is about 8 years old with 2GB of memory. I think I've got a virus or malware. When I try to turn it on, it lasts about 2 minutes then freezes. I tried booting up in safe mode but it does the same thing. I can't run any programs. Is there something I can do that is quick so that I'll have to time to fix it before it freezes?

Any help would be appreciated. :)
