System getting lazy/slow/freezes occasionally

Hello again Tech guys,
My system is getting very stubborn. When I click on pretty well anything lately I can hear the fan start to run really loud while the little 'connecting' thingie (screenshot attached) starts spinning and spinning...and spinning for sometimes up to two or three minutes or longer, then the program/site I clicked on finally loads, then the fan quiets down. Occasionally, when it takes too long I have to resort to the Ctrl/Alt/delete and try again. Sometimes the spinning connecting thingie will start to spin and freeze. I can't stop it, I can't close it, doesn't matter what I click, nothing works while it's frozen.

Any and all assistance/recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Yep.
