Hello,
I have a Dell XPS 15 laptop, which only has HDMI and a mini display port. There is no VGA connection. My projector is VGA and RCA only, so I have a daisy chain setup that starts with an Apple HDMI to DVI-D adapter, which has a DVI to VGA adapter on it, and the VGA cable after that.
Anyways...when I go into Change Screen Resolution or into NVIDIA Control Panel, the display DOES show up. It says NEC NP200 series. When I choose to extend the displays, or display on monitor 2 only, it does not get a signal. I've also tried Fn + F2 to do it with the external monitor button on my laptop...but it still won't work. I've made sure the resolution is set to 1024x768 and that the refresh rate is at 60hz. The brightness, contrast, gamma are all correct--the projector acts as if it is getting no signal at all. If I turn off source lock it just sits there and cycles through the available inputs.
The thing is--it's jerry rigged. I followed the instructions from someone else online and he said it worked....
I have a HDMI to DVI-D adapter plugged into a DVI-I to VGA adapter. I had to break off the 4 extra pins and shave down the big flat connector to get it to fit. A guy on another forum said that it worked flawlessly for him, but he was using a Viewsonic projector.
With that thought aside, can you think of anything else that might cause this??
It is communicating with the projector...it has to be...or else Windows wouldn't show it in the available displays list as "NEC NP200 series"
Is there anything I can do to get this to work without having to go buy a Mini Display port to VGA adapter? (That's the only other way I can think of to plug my XPS into my DLP projector.
Any help will be greatly appreciated!
