Hi. My name is Patrick and I am an electrician so I have some knowledge of basic electronics but not much. I live in an old house that like a mechanic with a broken down car, I havent got around to fixing, yet. So, last night I plugged a new tv in upstairs and downstairs the kids heard a pop and the downstairs tv (the tv in question) turned off and would not turn back on. I tried all the simple stuff like turning it off, unplugging it, etc. Today, I opened it up and did not see anything obviously wrong. The fuses were good, the caps looked fine, and the resistors. I disconnected the control board (I think thats what it is) from the power board and the tv comes on so I believe the power circuit board is fine. The red light comes on in the front but the tv wont turn on, either manually or with the remote. I dont have the equipment (ie... oscilloscope to check the control board.
Can anyone who has experienced something similar please give me some ideas on troubleshooting and repairing. This tv is less than a year old but was a floor model and bought "as is" with no warranty.
