Internet connection problems ..

Hi Guys , a friend of mine is using an acer netbook running windows 7 but hasnt been able to connect to the internet for a while now as whenever she tries to use the wireless connection is comes up with a message saying windows could not automatically detect this networks p[roxy settings ??? any ideas ??
