Usb audio problem

I've recently (yesterday) bought this USB Headset after my previous headset broke (right earpiece stopped working).

after installing the headset everything looked great in terms of drivers etc.
however a strange metallic distortion runs on all sound through the headset.
i've been using another headset which didn't have this issue but after swapping it around a few times now all usb headsets i own and could borrow have this same issue on my system.
the headsets all work great on one of my other windows xp systems.

so far i've tried:
reinstalling the usb headset, no avail
deinstalling all usb devices (usb mouse/keyboard) to check for interference, no avail.
clearing the old usb entries using usbdeview, no avail.
taking all the driverfiles from a xp-system where it does work and copying it to the system that doesnt work, no avail.
viewing bios for settings(strange since usb headsets used to work), no avail.



any help would be greatly aprieciated since i can't go around shooting stuff up in FPS-games without sound :)
i will happily install any programs needed to check and provide info, so please help me troubleshoot and hopefully fix this issue
