I have a friend with an Acer Aspire Z5610.
His PC no longer accepts any type of CD/DVD. The minute he inserts the CD/DVD into the drive, it ejects it, followed by three crackling (electric?) sounds. It shows this behavior for every single CD.
A few weeks ago he had no problems having his machine recognize CD/DVDs. Now all of a sudden this is happening.
When I check the power cable on the back of his PC, I noticed that it made electrical crackles (=loss of voltage) if I'd move the cable around a bit at its insertion point. One thing I'm going to do is replace that cable.
Other than that I don't know the causes or fixes for this problem.
Any ideas?
