Windows 7 froze on start up

I have searched but no one seems to have a laptop that a toddler has hacked ha
My 2 year old grabbed my Toshiba Satellite A665D and starting typing and now Windows 7 is stuck in start up
I can get to safe mode (after doing a hard reset ..removing battery)
so I am HOPING to back up my windows live mail, a few documents and just reformat
so first question
Windows Live Mail will not open in Safe Mode... suggestions?

I would go ahead and reformat now but I really need my email

- also BONUS Question:
My Toshiba Satellite A665D does have a recovery on the hard drive w/ out disc correct? I didnt get a disc with the laptop when I purchased it...
