Ok, so whenever I try to turn on my computer the fans and lights turn on, then instantly turn off. This was doing it for a month now. Only one day it turned on, so I quickly got my files, but I missed the important ones and I need them.
First thing, why is it doing this? I don't know, is it motherboard or power supply?
Next thing, since i need my files immediately, how can I take my 180GB HDD, and plug it into my XP machine? I don't want to format it, or anything. I asked my friend and he told me I can just plug it in while using the XP HDD still in, but I need to use the SATA cable from my Vista machine (which doesn't turn on)
So how can I keep my HDD from my vista, attach the HDD to my XP machine, don't format and keep the files like a USB?
I don't want to spend money to get it fixed or to buy anything. I don't have a static bracelet thing, so if I touch my HDD and move to my other computer will I kill it?
