Hi
I have a new Ideapad y580. My internet access is via acer liquid e smartphone.
My desktop connects via usb to the phone and I have internet access no problem.
However, when I plug the phone into my new laptop's usb, it does not detect it, so I'm trying to use the hotspot function of the phone to get internet on the laptop. 9 times out of 10, the laptop connects (easily) to the hotspot, but I get no internet access. 1 in ten times, for reasons mysterious and unknown, I get internet access instantly, and it disappears just as mysteriously.
I have uninstalled mcafee, installed the latest drivers, done ip removes, refreshes, and resets. I've unchecked ipv6. I do not have readycomm. I've done so much screwing around with it that, being a noob, I thought I broke it more myself. It did work today, tho, so I know I've done nothing too bad to it. I've rebooted the phone, the laptop, and both, with no luck.
Is there anyway to confirm if its the laptop or the hotspot/phone thats the cause of this issue?
I've done so much troubleshooting of the laptop that I have a hard time now believing its an issue with a brand new laptop, rather than my year old smartphone.
Any suggestions would be welcome. Its disheartening to have a new laptop that seems to work (connects to internet) but has no internet access.
