gonna try to make this as easy to understand as possible. my network is/has been set up like this:
#1- cable comes from the wall into the modem
#2 - a line then goes from the modem to a D-Link (615) wireless router. this router supplied a few connections, including...
#3 - a line that went from the D-link to a Linksys WRT-GS wireless router. this is the router my PC is hardwired too.
This network setup worked perfect, i had ZERO issues.
2 days ago, the router in the middle(the D-link) died. i had a few other routers sitting around (a linksys wrt-G, and a TP-LINK wireless N), i thought i would be able to just put one of these in the D-Link's place and i would be up and running again... NOPE!
no matter what i do or try, i can not get #3 router to pick up an internet connection from whatever router is directly connected to the modem. the router that is directly connected to the modem has internet, no problems... but that router will not sent the 2nd router the info it needs to get online as well.
SO im not sure what the problem is, i have spent many hours messing around in the router setup pages for all 3 routers, changing IP's DNS's, advanced routing options(router mode or gateway mode), releasing and renewing DHCP's, resetting to factory defaults.... a lot of this stuff i dont understand. i even tried swapping places with them, to see if maybe one liked being the host more then another, no dice.
is there some magic combination that i am missing here? do i need to update firmware? Was the D-Link that i used before just THAT special? should i go buy another D-link ?
PLEASE HELP!!
i currently connected to the router that is directly connected to the modem, so im fine.. but i need that 2nd router through the 1st router because i share this connection with others.
thank you
