Hello all,
I've heard a lot about this forum from Leo Laporte's show on KFI, and decided to ask for you assistance. My mother is having a problem on her computer, Windows 7, x64. She mainly uses it for internet, email, and some online banking, which is why I am concerned. She doesn't live with me, so I don't have immediate access to her PC, but I am
Previously, she was having a problem where she would open Google chrome, and type in a search. When the results came up for a legitimate website, say a bank, clicking the link would re-direct her to some random website. Now, I am only moderately tech savvy, and don't really know much about fixing complex computer problems.
So in an effort to help my dear mother, I downloaded the Windows Defender software from Windows.com, (she has McAfee for free from her internet service provider, which came up clean) and it was then that I discovered the above mentioned virus. The Windows solution was to download and run Windows Defender offline. Apparently, it didn't work.
I've seen various websites claiming to have the instructions to remove this, but I didn't trust or recognize them.
