Request for advice on ram memory upgrade

$

Hello,

I want to upgrade the memory in my HP Pavilion a1520n computer. I have two 512 mb cards in two slots with a maximum of four slots and about 4GB of memory. I was thinking of getting two more Crucial 1 GB cards so I would be adding 2 GB of memory to the system, for a total of about 3 GB. I know that they say to not mix memory and use the memory cards in pairs. Can I keep the two 512 MB Hyundai cards I have now and use them with the two new Crucial cards, or do they recommend to not mix brands at all ? Can you guys recommend a brand of memory and a place where I can buy it at a good price ? Perhaps crucial is the best best overall, I think I have used them before along with Kingston. Best-Buy sells a 2 GB kit packaged by "PNY" but I don't know much about them.

Here is my current memory specs as found by the freeware program "system information for windows" by Topala Software Solutions. I have also listed the memory recommended by Crucial via their system scan software, and the best buy cards.

I would appreciate any advice.

Thanks,
John

HDMI Input - PC Works, Phone and iPad Do Not

Can't figure this one out.

My phone and iPad will not connect via HDMI to a new teevee. The PC will.

I am using an Apple HDMI converter for the iPad; my phone is a Samsung Galaxy Note and I am using an MHL Adapter.

I am using the same HDMI cable in all three instances.

Both the MHL and the Apple adapters "recognize" that there is power plugged into them.

The TV shows "No Signal" when the MHL and Apple are plugged in.

When I take the exact same setups to my other TV, everything works fine.

I have flushed the cache on my phone and rest the iPad.

Help?

ETA: I have discovered I have SOUND just no picture, on BOTH iPad and Phone. The iPad indicates it has a TV connected, as well (the phone doesn't have that option).

Good morning. While cleaning up my start menu via the sysconfig function I found "mobilegeni daemon". After doing some research I decided I was not going to follow the various methods of removal and came here for advice.

I don't know if HiJackthis logs are still required so I've pasted one below in case.

Thank you in advance.

Wireless Network Adapter Corrupted

My laptop is an Acer Aspire 5534 operating Windows 7. I never had any issues connecting wireless to the internet until recently. My laptop had adware, which McAfee wouldn't remove, so I never stressed too much about it since it seemed harmless although it was sometimes annoying. My McAfee was a valid and up-to-date subscription. This continued for a while without any further harm until the other night, I noticed a few new icons on my desktop. So I tried running a virus scan to see if anything would be detected. When I opened McAfee, the "Real Scan" was disabled and preventing me from running a scan. And every time I tried enabling it, I would receive an error message and it would immediately disable again. So I assumed whatever virus I had was affecting my anti-virus. So I pressed the Wifi button on my laptop to turn the network off to be safe and tried running another scan but failed. I could still turn my wifi on and off without a problem. I still couldn't run a virus scan. So I restarted my pc on "Safe Mode with Networking" and managed to run a virus scan that finished with no threats.
Once I restarted my computer on normal, my wireless internet access icon on the bottom-right corner had a red X over it and no connections were being detected. Additionally the troubleshooter and/or diagnose options are corrupted and are giving me errors. I've tried disabling it and enabling it, uninstalling the driver, system restore, removing McAfee in case it was preventing the network from starting, I unchecked the power save option, tried updating the driver and it says it's updated. I feel like I've exhausted all my options. I am able to use my local connection with ethernet, please help. Thank you.
PS. The wireless adapter is an Atheros AR5B93.

Windows Vs Linux Servers

Hi All,

I am an IT Admin for a small company (150 users) and currently we use all windows servers, 2003, 2008, 2008R2 and 2012. I am interviewing for other positions and many of the Sys Admin roles want to see Linux server use.

Was just wondering what the differences are in an enterprise enviornemnt between the two, how hard is Linux server to use and where is the best place to learn to have some knowledge of it? I use Mint and Ubuntu in the Desktop form, not the server forms..

Thanks

Many people who resell or pass on their used smartphones use the built-in factory-reset feature to delete their personal info. But many studies, most recently by Prague-based security company Avast, have shown that a factory reset may not be enough.

In this study, Avast's experts bought 20 Android smartphones on eBay, some rooted and some not, which on the surface appeared to have been wiped of data and restored to factory settings. But by using some simple digital forensics tools, the experts were able to unearth everything from anime porn to nude selfies to sensitive financial data on these supposedly clean phones.

Can Not Run Virus Scan

I am running Windows 7, SP1 64-bit operating system. After the kids used the computer for a week or so, random pop-ups and extensions began appearing in Chrome browser. The computer is otherwise working normally, but when I try to install and/or run MalwareBytes, Avast or any virus scan, something is preventing them from running. I've tried to follow posts with similar problems, but so far nothing has worked. I would appreciate it if someone could walk me through the steps of removing this virus. Thank you!

Hi all haven't been on here for a bit, my computer has been running flawlessly up to now,
my teenage son has recently come home from uni, and the computer has started having
problems, i have avast anti virus and supper anti spywhere installed, the both found a virus
which has been taken out, more scans reveal nothing.
but since this time at certain times the computer wont run some of my games such as battlefield 3, but it will run
Cod 4, i was thinking it might be a driver issue so i tried to install the AMD driver detect, it downloads but wont install.
i am thinking about formatting the hard drive and starting again but this will be a headache as i have quite a few games
on there and they all will need to be patched, such as cod4, cod waw, cliffs of dover ect ect.

windows 7 pro 64
E6600 duel core 2.4
AMD 6850 GPX
Assus GM 41 board
120 gig SSD main HD
350 gig hd
4 gig of ram
600 w power supply
i can post full spec later when i get home, you have to run a small program it think to get the full information, i have forgotten how do do so

Getting 'server not found' message with many web pages

Using latest iMac with Mavericks / Airport Express

I was having no trouble for years with the current set-up until last week when I started getting "server not found....Firefox cannot find the server at...." messages often during We browsing on my iMac (latest model), perhaps one in five webpages with Firefox on the iMac, one in ten with Chrome on the iMac and one in three with Safari on my iPod Touch (latest) and iPad 2.

After the problem started, I noticed at the top right of my iMac screen, where the Wi-Fi symbol appears, it says "looking for networks" every five seconds or so. I don't know if this was happening before the connection issue started as I never checked before. But I thought the information might be useful.

I tried resetting Airport Express but the issue persists.

I also tested the network by removing the broadband cable from the Express device and plugging it directly into the iMac. With this set-up, the webpages all loaded without a problem (but of course I can't use my mobile devices).

I can't work out why the Wi-Fi has suddenly turned so unreliable. I have changed nothing in my system recently, or bought any new electronic devices.

What I can't get my head around is why it seems to be worse with Firefox, and even within Firefox the behaviour is odd. For example, I put "tech guy" into Google (using Firefox) and the search results come up no problem. I click on the "tech guy" link and it says "server not found". I can repeat this process 10 times in quick succession and the problem repeats. Then I can immediately copy Tech Guy's address, hop over to Chrome and it connects immediately. However, Chrome doesn't always work, it's just a lot more reliable than Firefox at the moment (though Firefox can still experience good spells of operation). As for Safari on the iPod Touch and iPad, that's become very unreliable (Opera works better in this case).

Likewise, I can whip through my Favourites one after the other and some sites will connect while others won't.

Sorry for such a long message but I wanted to offer as much information as possible.
Any advice much appreciated.
Thank you.

Can the WiFi adapter in the Samsung Ativ Book 9 Plus be upgraded from N to AC? The current adapter is the Intel Wireless-N 7260AN. Intel now makes an AC version of the 7260, but the web is full of complaints from people who installed it and couldn't get their laptops to recognize it.

What do you think about Herogami?

Hello,
I work in a little creative studio and we are developing a cloud-based Kanban tool for developers: Herogami. I would be really happy if you can spend a minute to take a look and tell me what do you think about it.

I don't post a link because this is not advertising, but I'm really interested about what you think. You can search Herogami on search engines or go to herogami(dot)com

Thank you! :)

Virus blocking internet access?

Hello,

My desktop cannot access the internet. I have done quite a bit of troubleshooting, and I don't know what else to do. It's definitely not our internet connection, since we have internet on all our other devices, and I have plugged the modem/router into this laptop, and it works fine. I have run an updated MBAM three times, and the last scan found no issues. The computer is about 5 years old, and it has Windows 7. I have checked and rechecked all the network settings, and everything looks right. I have tried restoring to an earlier date, but that didn't work. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the network driver, but that didn't work either.

When I click on internet explorer, the address line is completely blank and almost immediately, I get a window that says internet explorer has stopped working. When I click on Chrome, three tabs pop open at the same time, and I get the error message dns_probe_finished_no_internet.

I am thinking this is some type of virus based on the way the computer is behaving, but I am no more tech savvy than the average educated person, so I really have no idea.

Is there anything else I can do?

Thanks!

VPN Enigma

I am hoping for some information or guide for this particular issue I have with a client:

The scenario: Several remote clients are losing connection on the VPN. It seems to be more at a specific time for the most part (around 6am) but happens during the day as well.

I have done everything to ensure all the internet signals were in range so I know it's not an issue with the physical connection from us to the client.

The modem has been replaced too to ensure it's not the modem.

The client does have a backup line in case ours go down. He uses the same port in his firewall/router where ours goes (hotswap) and does not have this issue with his other line so the problem occurs on our line.

I know next to nothing when it comes to VPNs so if anyone can tell me how they work and possible issues, I would be grateful. :)
